Indian Government promotes LED lamp by half price of incandescent bulb

Indian government announced that it has proposed to replace incandescent and fluorescent by LED lamps in all of its capital offices.
According to Indian government estimates, LED lighting can save about 347,000 kilowatts electricity (about 13% of the country’s generating capacity). World Bank statistics show that about 300 million Indians still live without electricity.
India Minister of electricity Piyush Goyal estimated that the nationwide LED retrofit project can save $ 8 billion electricity per year, which can supply for 50 million people. Energy savings is essential for those countries which depend on fossil fuels, coal and natural gas to meet its international commitments of reducing carbon emissions.
In order to further promote the use of LED light bulbs, the Indian government has launched a separate program that sells LED bulbs at price of 10 rupees (about $ 0.16), is only about half the price of incandescent and fluorescent lamps; under normal circumstances, the LED bulb retail price is about 500 rupees. Saurabh Kumar, the general manager of energy efficiency department of joint venture by the Ministry is in charge of this project.
However, the government or the company did not provide subsidies for low price LED bulbs; instead, the goal is to lock power companies. Indian power companies discount sell electricity to certain customers, and encourage customers to switch to LED lamp and reduce electricity consumption, so the discount sell electricity is also decreased.
